PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENTS

When you need answers, we’re here to help

Comprehensive psychological assessments for children, teens, and adults to identify mental health conditions, emotional and behavioural concerns, cognitive challenges, personality factors, and diagnostic needs. Our in-depth psychological evaluations provide accurate diagnoses, personalized treatment recommendations, and the clarity you need to move forward with confidence.

You know something doesn't feel right...

You just don’t know why.

Maybe you’ve noticed changes in yourself. Perhaps your child isn’t acting like they used to. Or maybe someone you love seems overwhelmed, withdrawn, anxious or emotionally exhausted.

You can sense that something is going on… but you don’t yet have the words to explain it.

At first, it’s easy to chalk it up to stress. A difficult season. School pressures. Work. Life. You tell yourself it’ll pass.

But over time, the questions become harder to ignore.

Why does everyday life feel so overwhelming? Why is anxiety getting in the way? Why do emotions feel so difficult to manage? Why does your child seem to be struggling at home, at school, or with friends? Could this be anxiety? Depression? Trauma? ADHD? An adjustment to a difficult experience? Or something else entirely?

Not having answers can feel exhausting, for you and the people who care about you.

Our psychological assessments provide a deeper understanding of emotional, behavioural and psychological functioning. Through a comprehensive evaluation, we identify patterns, clarify diagnoses when appropriate, and provide practical recommendations that guide treatment, school supports, and the next steps toward feeling better.

DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?

Worry feels constant. Everyday situations become overwhelming, sleep is affected or activities they were once enjoyed are avoided because they feel too stressful or frightening.

There are noticeable shifts in mood, motivation or energy. You or your child may seem more withdrawn, irritable, tearful, or no longer interested in things that once brought joy.

Small frustrations quickly become overwhelming. Emotional reactions feel intense, unpredictable, or difficult to recover from, affecting relationships at home, school or work.

A difficult or traumatic experience continues to affect daily life. Certain situations trigger strong emotional or physical reactions, making it difficult to feel safe or at ease.

You’ve wondered whether what’s happening could be anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD or another mental health concern. You want a clearer understanding instead of continuing to wonder.

Whether you’re seeking a diagnosis, recommendations for therapy, guidance for school or work, or a clearer treatment plan, you want information that leads to meaningful next steps.

A psychological assessment provides clarity about what’s contributing to emotional and behavioural challenges while offering practical recommendations to support healing, resilience, and long-term wellbeing.

You Or Your Loved One Deserve More Than A Diagnosis…

When you’ve spent months (or even years) wondering what’s going on, for yourself or a loved one, you deserve more than a list of scores and clinical jargon. You deserve answers that make sense in the context of your life.

At Beaches Therapy Group, we know that what you’re experiencing is connected to your health, relationships, work, family, history and life experiences. That’s why we begin with curiosity, never assumptions.

Before there is testing, there is your story.

We take the time to understand not only what you’ve been experiencing or noticing in a child, partner, or loved one, but how it shows up in everyday life.  As we connect the dots, patterns begin to emerge and experiences that once felt confusing start to make sense.

Our role isn’t simply to tell you what’s happening. It’s to help you make sense of your experience, recognize your strengths and understand what steps will help you move forward.

The greatest relief isn’t receiving a diagnosis; it’s finally understanding yourself or your loved one. And from there, things start to feel more manageable again.

FAQs

If you’re noticing ongoing challenges with learning, attention, memory, emotional regulation, executive functioning, or day-to-day performance that aren’t improving over time, an assessment can provide clarity. Many clients come to us after teachers, physicians, therapists, or family members have raised concerns, while others simply want to better understand themselves or their child.

If you’re unsure, our team can help determine whether an assessment is the right next step during your initial consultation.

Depending on the type of assessment, it may provide insight into:

  • ADHD
  • Learning Disabilities (such as Dyslexia or Dyscalculia)
  • Giftedness
  • Cognitive strengths and challenges
  • Executive functioning
  • Memory and attention
  • Emotional and behavioural concerns
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (where applicable)
  • Other neurological or psychological conditions

Every assessment is individualized based on your concerns and goals.

A Psychoeducational Assessment provides a comprehensive understanding of how someone learns, processes information, and performs academically. It can identify learning disabilities, giftedness, ADHD, and other factors affecting school performance.

An ADHD Assessment focuses specifically on determining whether symptoms are consistent with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and how those symptoms impact daily life.

If you’re unsure which assessment is most appropriate, we’ll guide you through that decision during your consultation.

While every assessment is tailored to the individual, the process typically includes:

  • An initial consultation
  • A clinical interview
  • Standardized testing completed over one or more appointments
  • Review of relevant background information
  • Comprehensive scoring and interpretation by your psychologist
  • A feedback session to review results
  • A detailed written report with personalized recommendations

You’ll understand what to expect before every step begins.

The assessment itself is typically completed over a series of appointments, depending on the type of evaluation.

After testing is complete, your psychologist carefully analyzes the results and prepares a detailed report before meeting with you to explain the findings and recommendations.

During your consultation, we’ll provide an estimated timeline based on your specific assessment.

Yes.

You’ll receive a comprehensive written report that summarizes the assessment findings, explains the results in clear language, and provides practical recommendations for home, school, work, or future treatment where appropriate.

Many clients also use this report to support accommodation requests at school, university, or in the workplace.

Yes.

Many clients choose to share their report with teachers, school teams, physicians, or employers to help access accommodations or better understand their needs.

The report belongs to you, and you decide who receives it.
