Hi! I’m Anel.

Outside of work, I (really) enjoy pottery, cooking, dancing, hiking, hosting dinner parties, being in green spaces, spending quality time with family/friends, learning Spanish and tending to my family of cactus plants.

Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.
-Eckhart Tolle

I am a Master of Social Work graduate student at Wilfrid Laurier University working under the supervision of Cathy Dubrofsky and Rebecca Loucks. I’m also a Registered Nurse with nearly a decade of experience and deeply understand the relationship between our health and mental wellbeing. I believe that the quality of our life is influenced by the strength of our relationships. My dedication lies in helping you overcome emotional challenges and establish healthier behaviors and ways of thinking, so you can feel more fulfilled in your life and relationships.

As a Somali-Canadian, Muslim woman, I recognize the complexity and nuance of living between multiple cultural and faith-based identities. As the daughter of refugees, I understand the challenges of trauma, identity, and community within our families and across cultures. My life and work have been shaped by the challenge of reconciling these conflicts while finding belonging and identity.

For individuals, I can help you find your way through difficult emotions like anxiety and depression, or the weight of loss. If you’re facing conflicts with family or dealing with workplace stress, we’ll explore practical strategies to manage these challenges and prioritize self-care. Together, we’ll work on rediscovering joy and connection in your life, helping you feel more balanced and fulfilled. For couples, I can guide you in rebuilding connection and understanding. We’ll work on establishing healthier patterns of interaction, improving communication skills, and fostering deeper emotional intimacy, helping you overcome conflicts and strengthen your relationship.

My approach is rooted in empathy and collaboration, creating a safe and nurturing space where you can express your feelings without judgment. I emphasize a culturally informed perspective, recognizing the diverse backgrounds and experiences that shape our lives. No matter your situation, my goal is to help you cultivate a deeper sense of self-compassion and create fulfilling, meaningful relationships in your life.

If you’re ready to take the first step toward feeling more balanced and empowered in your life, I invite you to book a free consultation with me. Together, we can explore the path to a healthier, happier you.
