Karen Phinney, MSW RSW

Perhaps you are someone who has struggled with anxiety, depression, or negative thinking. Perhaps you are someone who has found relationships of importance to be strained and challenging. Perhaps you are experiencing the depths of loss, disillusionment, or immense sadness related to grief, bereavement, or loss. Where ever you find yourself at this time, welcome to the first step of healing, re-discovering, adjusting, or enhancing various aspects of yourself and your life. I am here to honour the courage it takes to come to therapy and seek support.

As a Masters trained Social Worker, I have over 15 years of experiential training in working with a wide-range of complex challenges and concerns related to life transitions, infertility and pregnancy, mental health concerns throughout the perinatal period, the dying and death process, and issues related to parenting and relationships, along with identity and role-strain.

Through a genuine therapeutic relationship, I view our time together as a collaborative effort based on trust and understanding. I offer a warm, respectful and empathetic and safe environment in which you can share your lived experiences, process your challenges, and work towards your goals. I offer counselling that provides tools to achieve personal change, foster growth, and lead to new discoveries.

In therapy, I apply a range of evidenced-based approaches including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness and Compassion, Narrative Therapy, Strengths-Based Therapy, Interpersonal and dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Brief Solution-Focused Therapy.

I am a registered member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), and the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW).

We will have a free initial consultation call together to learn about each other, explore fit, and identify areas of growth and goals of therapy. I look forward to working together!
