Rachel Gertler, MSW RSW

For me, therapy is a way to take any part of your life and make it just a little bit better. While obviously a simplified version of the comprehensive answer, I truly believe that therapy does not have to be more complicated than this. Many people come to therapy with longstanding mental health concerns that fit diagnostic criteria, but many people come to therapy in search of a way to take a small step in another direction; one that will bring them more positive well-being.

While I am practiced in a number of different psychological modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Care, I believe that each client presents a unique story and one that does not necessarily fit into a structured treatment plan. My approach is to meet the client where they are and provide a balance of challenging them via evidence-based treatments while ensuring a safe space to be validated and explore a therapeutic journey. As a therapist, my goal is to be involved in my clients’ lives as a touchpoint of stability, and concurrently nurture their own inner strength.

With an educational background that spans health science, family mediation, and registered social work, I am equipped to work with a multitude of different populations, most predominantly young adults, adults, and couples. My work in the field of mediation nurtured my passion for helping people (either individually or as a couple) work on communication within their relationships to experience the connection that works for them and their lifestyle.

I understand people from a holistic systems lens; each individual is a product of the systems, environments, and relationships to which they belong.

If you have tried therapy before without success: you are a different person today with inevitably different life circumstances. If you have contemplated the idea of therapy, but are hesitant: this could be an experiment, you don’t know what the outcome will be. If you are a therapy enthusiast: I am excited to share that enthusiasm with you! In any case, I look forward to meeting you.
