Claudette Brown | Beaches Therapy Group

Claudette Brown, MSW,RSW

I am a registered Social Worker with a Masters Degree from The University of Toronto in the Mental Health and Health Stream. Before becoming a Social Worker, I first worked as a Child and Youth Worker, providing services to children, adolescents, and their families in a variety of settings which include but are not limited to the hospital, schools, and groups homes.

I became a Social Worker in hopes of aiding in the socioemotional development of individuals, couples, and families by providing them with support and education that will  equip them with positive coping tools, and assist them building their emotional intelligence and resiliency. One of the most important driving forces behind choosing Social Work was witnessing the gap in services for the Black, Brown and Indigenous communities in our city. I continually hope to be a part of providing the services and support that are needed and deserved.

I practice from a strength based, anti-oppressive lens and have experience working with clients facing difficulties surrounding anxiety, depression, crisis intervention, sexuality, relationship concerns, and family conflict. I have experience using a variety of therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.

I believe that cultural competency is an important part of all therapeutic relationships and I strive to meet clients at their level of comfortability by consistently remaining my warm, empathetic, and authentic self in each session.

I have found that each client has their unique strengths and abilities and when struggling, it is sometimes difficult for them to see this. By using a strength based perspective, I take pride in enhancing client strengths that already exist, as well as bringing to light abilities and facets that clients may often overlook. This helps them build resiliency and become the best versions of themselves possible. I recognize that many areas of our lives are connected and use a holistic approach to therapy, discussing multiple aspects of my client’s lives; seeing the importance of looking at clients as a whole, rather than isolating individual pieces that make them who they are.

I would love the opportunity to connect for a free 15 minute phone consultation!
